Pella Baseball Offense Slugs Newton Pitching, Softball Falls Twice to Ranked Newton

Pella’s bats had little trouble solving Newton pitching in a single baseball game on the road Friday night.

The Little Dutch won 16-1, knocking in seven runs in the 2nd inning and four each in the 4th and 5th.

Aaron Downs hit his 5th home run of the season and drove in three, Jaden Rolffs scored three times and had a double, Avery Van Zee was 2-for-3 with three RBI, and Tanner Dunsbergen was 2-2 was a pair of runs driven in. Landon Vander Leest also hit a home run and earned the win on the mound, striking out five and giving up just three hits in four innings.

Pella improves to 10-8 has a makeup doubleheader with Newton this afternoon.

The Lady Dutch dropped their games on the road to No. 12 ranked Newton 10-2, 4-1. Pella is 12-14 and hits the road with the baseball team to Oskaloosa Monday.
