Today we continue the countdown of the Top 10 sports stories for the 2017-2018 school year at Central College with number nine.
The Dutch men’s golf team gave it a great run in its quest for a 33rd Iowa Conference championship, eventually settling for second place after Nebraska Wesleyan pulled away in the fourth round on May 5th in Waverly.
Central and the Prairie Wolves entered that final round tied at the top of the leaderboard, but Nebraska Wesleyan shot the low round of the tournament, 293, to close it out, while the Dutch carded a 299.
Juniors Nash Bucher and Jeremy Schwab earned all-IIAC honors for Central after finishing in seventh and eighth place individually.
That meet was the farewell for coach Jon Olsen, who resigned after two years at the helm of the program.  Earlier this month, 20-year Western Illinois head coach Mel Blassi was pegged to take over as head coach of the Central College men’s golf team.
