For the second consecutive year, Central College women’s golfers Molly Timmerman and Emily Opsal were named to the Women’s Golf Coaches Association’s All-American Scholars team.
To be eligible for selection, honorees must have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher and compete in a minimum of 12 varsity rounds. It’s the sixth time in seven years that the Dutch have had at least one player on the academic squad. Nationwide, 1,020 women’s golfers were awarded.
A biochemistry and Spanish double major, Timmerman graduated in May. She secured a stroke average of 85.3 in 13 competitive rounds. She shot a season-best round of 79 on September 10 on the final day of the Wartburg Fall Invitational at Prairie Links Golf Course in Waverly. Opsal is an business management major with a 3.87 GPA. In 14 competitive rounds this season, Opsal had a stroke average of 82.5. Her four-day score of 79-79-89-90—337 at the Iowa Conference Championships was enough for a 12th place finish. Of her seven competitions, Opsal finished in the top-10 four times and the top-five twice.
