A Knoxville man was given a 7 year suspended sentence Thursday after pleading guilty to failure to affix a drug tax stamp and an OWI second offense.
According to court records, the Knoxville Police Department pulled over a vehicle driven by Cannon Jay Brown, 25, for a malfunctioning brake light. During the subsequent search of the vehicle, police found a bag with three hypodermic needles, a digital scale, and several baggies filled with methamphetamine. Brown also admitted that he had used drugs the previous morning, and refused to give a sample for testing. Brown was ultimately sentenced to five years for the tax stamp and two years for the OWI, both suspended and to run consecutively, and three years of probation. Brown must also complete the OWI education course and complete a substance abuse evaluation.
