Our number nine moment in Knoxville High School Athletics for the 2017/2018 school year comes from wrestling. Two Panther grapplers made the state meet this season, Coby Meyer at 170 pounds, and Chase Bellon at 220 pounds. In Bellon’s case is was sweet redemption as he was less than a second from making the state meet his junior year, and left no doubt about it by getting an overtime win in the district championship match to advance. Meyer likely secured his spot at state in the first round in a win over his opponent from Van Meter. Meyer was forced into the wrestle-back where his got the automatic win due to criteria. After his state clinching match, Bellon was relived to finally get his chance at the state meet. Meyer would go on to fall in his first two matches at state while Bellon lost his first round match, but came back to win a wrestle back over Kobe Simon of West Liberty before ending his state tournament in the second round of the consolation bracket.
