It’ll be a battle of the underdogs Saturday night to claim the class 2A district 12 baseball crown, when five seeded PCM faces off with sixth seeded East Marshall.
The Mustangs (12-13) qualified for the event after a wild 8-7 upset win over top seeded Pleasantville, just days after losing in mercy rule fashion to the Trojans 12-1. East Marshall (12-14) also cracked the code against their opponent, defeating West Marshall 10-1 in the semifinal after being swept by them in two games during the regular season. The Mustangs made quick work of East Marshall back on May 24th winning 19-8, but they understand the postseason is a different animal. Junior centerfielder Preston Van Wyk tells KNIA/KRLS Sports anything can happen in tournament play and they will have to play their best to come out on top. Van Wyk noted they are living proof that just because a team mercy rules another one week, doesn’t mean it will happen again.
The battle for a district championship will get started at 7 p.m. tomorrow in Pleasantville.
