The Pella Christian baseball team ran into a buzz saw on Tuesday night, as they fell to Centerville on the road 11-1 in five innings in a class 2A district semifinal.
As heard on 92.1 KRLS, it was a hit parade for the Big Reds, pounding out eight knocks and eight runs in the first inning. The aggressive approach continued into the second, tacking on three more runs for the big lead. The Eagles got on the board on a sacfly from Luke Mulder that plated Cameron Vanderwal in the fifth but it was not enough in the mercy rule loss. Vanderwal led the offense going 2-for-2 with a triple and single. Will Dembski suffered the loss on the bump. Head Coach Jeff Bruxvoort was quick to credit the Big Red bats saying, “They put the ball where they needed to and we haven’t seen an offensive team like that all season.” Centerville (22-7) advances to the district finals where they will face I-35 on Saturday.
Pella Christian closes the year at 9-20 and bid farewell to seniors Treven Cadwell and Kade VanderMolen.
