The Top 10 countdown continues for PCM sports for 2017-18 with number four.
Postseason baseball already makes for a lot of suspense. Combine that with late inning magic and you have a game that fans won’t soon forget. Just a week removed from a mercy-rule loss to Pleasantville, the Mustang baseball team got their revenge on July 10th with a 8-7 wild win over the Trojans in the district semifinal game. Trailing 7-4 heading into the final frame PCM took advantage of a couple errors to plate four runs and take the lead. The drama didn’t end there; as Pleasantville loaded the bases in the bottom half of the inning with two outs. A line shot to the left side looked like a base hit but shortstop Brayton Van Dyke had a diving catch to end the game. Head coach of the Mustangs Jeff Lindsay tells KNIA/KRLS Sports it was an emotional rollercoaster when he saw the bat hit the ball. “I’m just hoping for him to knock the ball down and try to get the force at second. When he stretched out and caught it I jumped up and looked around like, did that just happen?”
The win propelled the Mustangs to the district final where they fell to East Marshall and finished with year with a 12-14 record.
