Pleasantville knocked Pella Christian out of the softball playoffs with a 3-2 win, in a Friday night game heard live on 92.1 KRLS.
The Trojans started the scoring in the first with a pair of tallies, including a Makenzie McGriff solo home run. Pella Christian answered — taking advantage of three Pleasantville errors in the top of the second to tie the game. Both pitchers — Abby DeJoode and Cheyenne Collins, stymied the bats in the middle innings, with both teams each stranding eight baserunners in the contest. After an eight-pitch battle, Faith Vander Hart gave the Trojans the eventual winning run with a crucial, two-out, RBI single, and the Eagles could not touch home plate one more time.
DeJoode gave up two unearned runs in seven innings, striking out six Eagles, to earn the win, and Danielle Vande Voort ended up with the loss for the Eagles.
Pleasantville advances to the Class 2A regional final at Des Moines Christian Monday at 5:30 p.m. The Eagles season ends at 12-24, and the program says farewell to seniors Sophie Howerzyl and Amanda Harrill.
