Central College softball coach George Wares is known for his small-ball strategy, and he has the perfect pair of players to get it started.
When he joined us last night on the Central College Radio Coaches Corner on 92.1 KRLS to reflect back on the 2018 season, he says that one of the highlights was the blossoming superstar duo of Sara Tallman and Shaye Witte at the top of the Dutch lineup.
“I didn’t see all 400-plus teams, but I saw quite a few that we played and being on the committee seeing the top eight teams at the national tournament, I didn’t see a better 1-2.  That’s how good those two are, and they’re also very good defensively. It’s exciting to know we have them coming back.”
Both Tallman and Witte made the NCAA All-Region Team as sophomores this past season.  Tallman set the school record for stolen bases with 47, while Witte led the team with a .404 batting average.
