Local residents are earning honors at the 2018 Iowa State Fair.
Skyler Windy of Pleasantville claimed the Reserve Champion Breeding Birds and many other awards in the FFA Poultry Show, with Lane Anderson of Bussey picking up a first place finish in Champion Bantams. In the Cedar Falls Baker Shows of “Core” Competencies Kathleen Taylor of Knoxville placed first in the dessert category and second overall. In the Hy-Vee Smiles in Every Aisle competition Rachel Peterson of Knoxville placed first in the One Layer Cakes & Cupcakes. In the crochet competition, Barbara DeWit of Tracy placed first in the baby afghan category, Mary Blommers of Pella placed first in the childs dress category, and Kathryn Hollingsworth of Pleasantville placed first in the lace edging category. Steve Hatch of Knoxville took home first place in the Farmers Championship of the Horseshoe Pitching Tournament. A full list of winners and placewinners is below.
