High expectations surround the PCM football team in 2018 with a lot of key players returning from last year’s 7-2 squad. Those expectations will be tested early, as the Mustangs did not shy away from a tough non-district schedule.
In their four games out of district to start the season, the Mustangs are going up against opponents with a combined 28-11 record in 2017 and three of the four games are on the road. PCM opens the year August 24th when they make the short trek to face off with Newton, a team that went 7-2 in class 3A last year. The Mustangs continue on the road the next week facing off with West Marshall (6-3 last year) before their home opener against Roland-Story (4-5 last year) in week three. The non-conference slate culminates when they seek revenge traveling to Pella Christian in week four. The Eagles edged the Mustangs 24-22 in the season opener last year, which paved the way for Pella Christian to have an 11-1 year and a trip to the class 1A semifinals.
The first look at the 2018 Mustangs will be Friday when they travel to Pleasantville for a scrimmage.
