The Eagles football team will face the largest school in their program’s 15-year history to open the season this evening.
Pella Christian hosts Oskaloosa at Eagle Lane for opening night. While the two are close Little Hawkeye Conference rivals, they have never squared off on the gridiron. The Eagles have played one other Class 3A opponent before — Knoxville, in 2006 and 2007, with the 2007 game hosted at Central College in the only overtime period ever played in P.C. football history — a 19-13 win for the Eagles.
Head Coach Rich Kacmarynski tells KNIA/KRLS Sports while Oskaloosa will pose some challenges with their depth, this marks one of the largest Pella Christian varsity rosters ever, and he feels they can compete step-for-step with the Indians.
“We actually have one of the biggest rosters we’ve ever had in school history as well, so we feel like we’re pretty deep and we have 30 upperclassmen,” he says. “We’ve been trying honestly to play as many kids as possible — not just because we’re playing Osky, but really because we want to get everybody on the field.”
Coverage from Eagle Lane begins at 6:30, and kickoff at 7 p.m. on the KRLS2 stream at KNIAKRLS.com. Andrew Schneider and Larry Hessing return to the broadcast booth for the 5th straight year together to open the Eagles season.
