It was a wild way to start the 2018 season on Eagle Lane and Pella Christian won a shootout over Oskaloosa in a 51-33, as heard live on the KRLS2 stream on kniakrls.com.
The Eagles won the see-saw affair with their Little Hawkeye Conference rivals, taking an early lead, before Oskaloosa dominated the second quarter and took a one-point advantage just before the halftime break.
Pella Christian’s defense tightened in the second half, and after trailing 33-30, scored 18 unanswered to close out to contest.
Assistant Coach Verlan Nikkel tells KNIA/KRLS Sports it was a hard fight to the end, and the team showed a lot of heart after Osky wore them down before the half.
“It was a fun game to be in,” he says. “Kept you on your toes and on the edge of your nerves there a little bit, not knowing how things were going to go, just a lot of back and forth stuff.”
Noah Treimer was once again a human highlight reel, scoring a pick-six, kickoff return, rushing, and receiving touchdown. Josh Adinson had three tackles behind the line of scrimmage for the Eagles as well.
Pella Christian improves to 1-0 and travels to face the defending Class 1A state champions at Van Meter next week.
