The Pella Public Library is hosting a program about cemetery care and gravestone repair this Thursday.
John Heider, current president of the State Association for the Preservation of Iowa Cemeteries presents about documenting, cleaning, repairs, materials, equipment, and methods for the process beginning at 6:30 p.m.
In the last 11 years, he has repaired or reset over 3,500 grave markers and has worked or taught classes in Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, Missouri, Iowa, Kentucky, and Oklahoma. Heider has received national and state awards, was featured in a university documentary, and had his work presented on the cable television network RFD America. He is a consultant and co-author of several cemetery preservation booklets and is a contributor to the State Association for the Preservation of Iowa Cemeteries (SAPIC) website and newsletter.
