It may be week one, but the Pella football team looked to be in mid-season form last night against Dallas Center-Grimes winning 28-0, as heard on 92.1 KRLS.
After a quick three and out by the Mustangs to start the game the Little Dutch put together a methodical drive down the field capped off by a Gabe Thomas six-yard touchdown run. Another six-yard Thomas run that reached pay dirt made the score 14-0 when right before the half Aaron Downs had a 17 yard scamper to post a 21-0 lead at the break. The dagger came in the third when a fumble recovery for Pella turned into a 71-yard touchdown run for Downs in the next drive to seal the win. Downs finished with 109 yards on the ground while Thomas had 62. Ryan Gustafson completed 9 of 17 passes for 70 yards in the win. Head Coach Jay McKinstrey was quick to give credit to the defense as they only allowed 181 yards of total offense all night.
Pella opens the year 1-0 and will welcome Mount Pleasant to town next week.
