RDG Planning & Design, the group helping the City of Pella design the upcoming downtown streetscape project, hosted an interactive design studio this week.
The design team from RDG was at the Public Safety Complex, working with citizens and stakeholders to develop concepts and details, including lighting, sidewalks, furniture, landscaping, alleys, streets, public restroom possibilities, and more.

Charlie Cowell with RDG tells KNIA/KRLS News the sessions were key in helping refine the results from a survey that had over 500 residents respond about what they’d like to see in the city’s upcoming downtown streetscape.
“Some themes really emerged,” he says. “Sticking with more simple, traditional design–modern, maybe not so much, but if it is included, it’s balancing it with the traditional.”
RDG has presented the initial concepts to the Steering Committee and will make further refinements through the fall.
