Weekly activities wrap up this weekend at Lake Red Rock.
Park Ranger Tracy Spry tells KNIA/KRLS News programs begin this evening and continue through Saturday, with Diggin in the Dirt this evening and a birdwatching hike Saturday morning. Nature crafts will follow at 10 a.m. at the Playscape, followed by Let’s Go Paddling from 1 to 3 p.m. at Roberts Creek. Programs are free of charge, and reservations are not needed. Friday, Aug. 31-Diggin’ in the Dirt – 7:00 p.m.-Whitebreast Campground Let’s
go “down under” and search for the creatures who live and work in the soil.
We’ll search under logs and rocks too. Exploring dirt can be, well, dirty,
so please wear old clothes!
Sat., Sept. 1-Birdwatching Hike – 8:00 a.m.-North Overlook Picnic Area Take
a journey on a quest to discover Red Rock’s winged wonders! Learn some of
the basics of spotting birds and identifying them by sight and sound. Bring
your binoculars or borrow a pair from us. (Closed-toe shoes and long pants
recommended)
Sat., Sept. 1-Nature Crafts – 10:00 p.m.-Playscape Artists of all ages:
join us for some make-and-take creative fun! Supplies will be provided. All
you need to bring is your creativity!
Sat., Sept. 1-Let’s Go Paddling! – 1:00-3:00 p.m.-Roberts Creek Enjoy the
chance to experience both canoeing and kayaking in the same day! Give one or
both types of watercraft a try and see how much fun paddling can be! (You
must be at least 10 years old to use kayaks. Life jackets will be provided.
Programs may be cancelled if inclement weather and wind conditions.)
Sat., Sept. 1-Creatures of the Night Hike – 8:30 p.m.-North Overlook
Campground Hike along a woodland trail in search of the night shift. Follow
the tracks left behind by critters of the night and listen for owl calls and
other lurking creatures!
