Local residents continue to earn awards at the 2018 Iowa State Fair.
Fruit crops were judged during the fair, with one Pella resident dominating the grapes categories. Atticus Vos of Pella was the overall winner of the grapes competition, with 1st place finishes in Fredonia, all other blue varieties, all other red varieties, other seedless varieties, white wine grapes, red wine grapes, collection, basket, and sweepstakes.

The Apiary competition brought out competitors’ stingers when it was judged prior to the start of the fair. Diana Bucklin of Pella won best beeswax candles in the dipped category, and placed in beeswax art and all other beeswax candles. Brenda Becker of Pella had the best snack and dessert category and placed second overall in the Creative with Ramen Noodles competition.
Doris Evans of Pella was 1st place in the Hardanger Embroidery category of the Counted Thread Techniques contest.
