An SUV rear-ended a tractor in the westbound lane of Highway 92 in Knoxville Monday afternoon.
At approximately 2:10pm, a blue SUV traveling westbound rear-ended a tractor at highway speeds in the right lane, crashed into the concrete barrier, and crossed into the left side shoulder before coming to a stop.
Mercy One Helicopter was called in to transport the driver of the SUV to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines with serious injuries, while the tractor driver was alert and communicating with emergency personnel before being taken to a hospital by ambulance. The cause of the crash is under investigation. The condition of both driver’s is currently unknown at this time.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Knoxville Fire Department, Knoxville Township Rural Fire, Iowa State Patrol, Knoxville Police Department, and Iowa DoT all responded to the scene, which blocked off westbound traffic on Highway 92 for over a half hour.
