It seemed sketchy at intermission, but three big third quarter touchdowns were enough to motor the Pella High football team past Norwalk last night, 31 – 17, in a game heard live on KNIAKRLS.com.
Penalties and miscues kept points off the board for both teams in the first half. With the wind playing a factor in many ways, Coach Jay McKinstrey tells KNIA/KRLS Sports that the decision to take the wind at their backs to begin the second half, rather than in the fourth quarter, was key to their strategy coming out of the locker room.
The Little Dutch indeed come out swinging in the third, scoring three touchdowns, including a near 70-yard punt return to the house by Aaron Downs, who also came up with a big interception early in the period. The impressive sophomore also added a touchdown run in the win, which pushes Pella’s record to 3 – 0 on the season. They’ll conclude non-district play next week at home versus a physical Carlisle squad.
