The Central College football team is on the road to St. Paul, Minnesota today for the 2018 season opener, a first ever meeting with Northwestern.
The Dutch are coming off a 7-3 season in which they went 6-2 and finished runner-up in the Iowa Conference.  They graduated a huge and productive senior class, including record-setting All-American receiver Sam Markham.
Coach Jeff McMartin says that position is the biggest question mark as they head into today’s season opener, as the leading returning wide receiver caught just three passes a season ago.
“Can they get open?  Can they make the catches they need to make?  I have every confidence that Blaine (Hawkins) is going to put the ball where it needs to be, he’s going to give these guys chances and he’s going to make good decisions.  Blaine and our running backs all run the ball very well, and I expect that our offensive line will do a very good job tonight. I think a lot of it is going to come down to the receiver position and tight end position from the standpoint of production.”
Today’s contest is the only night game on Central’s 2018 schedule.  Kickoff is scheduled at 5:00 in the shadows of the Minnesota State Fairgrounds, and Trevor Castle and Don DeWaard will call all of the action, beginning with pregame at 4:35 on 92.1 KRLS.
