Coming into the 2018 campaign not many positions needed to be addressed for the PCM football team, as they brought back most of their starters from a 7-2 squad last year. However, there was one part of the game that was full of uncertainty and that was at kicker.
Losing Brady Fagan to graduation, the Mustangs had a hole to fill in the kicking game. In their week one win over Newton, the Mustangs did not attempt a PAT but last week in a 29-6 win over West Marshall they took a big leap forward in that department. Andrew Mitchell, who just joined the team a few weeks ago, nailed his only point after touchdown attempt in the win. Head Coach Greg Bonnett tells KNIA/KRLS Sports he is happy with the progress Mitchell is making.
“When he came out a few weeks ago we decided to try him out at kicker. In practice he has been steadily improving and it was huge for him to knock one through in a game. Everyone knows that a kicking game is huge for a team at some point in the year and this could be a big bonus for us.”
Mitchell will look to add to his kicking resume this Friday when the 2-0 Mustangs take on 1-1 Roland-Story.
