What started out as a seemingly easy touchdown drive to start the game for Knoxville, ended in a Panthers loss to Grinnell last night in Knoxville’s homecoming by a score of 19-7 as heard on KNIA. Tyler Wells scampered from 20 yards out with just over two minutes gone in the game and Knoxville was up 7-0. The Tigers would take control from then on to score the final 19 points of the game. A perplexed Coach Eric Kellar could not put his finger on why his team was unable to sustain the momentum. The game turned late in the second quarter when Grinnell intercepted a Knoxville pass and took it back for the a touchdown to tie the game, then as time expired in the first half, the Tigers nailed a 26 yard field goal to go up 10-7 at the break. Knoxville only mustered 141 total yards of offense and for the second time this season it was all on the ground, but unlike a week two win over Centerville the Panthers were unable to win this game. The Panthers also saw the turnover bug rear its ugly head with two lost fumbles and the interception. Tyler Wells led the Panthers with 85 yards on 17 carries and the lone score. Knoxville is now 2-4 on the season and 0-2 in district play. The Panthers will travel to winless South Tama next week.
