Dozens of children and families came to Marion County Park on Saturday…to meet with both superheroes and real-life heroes.
The Super Hero Roll and Read invited participants to walk the trail leading to one of the shelters at the park; along the way, kids saw signs telling a story about the importance of reading…and ran into a superhero or two, reinforcing that message.
At the end of the trail they met first responders from area police and fire agencies; they handed out safety information, and got to know the children up close to help them learn to trust authority figures in the event of an emergency.
Books were provided to the first sixty families in attendance.
