The monkey is off their backs.
It’s been four years in the making, and the Eagles football team finally found a signature win against Iowa’s premiere football program.
No. 8 Pella Christian hit the road to Iowa City and knocked off No. 1 Regina in a 24-21 win, as heard live on 92.1 KRLS.
The Eagles played from behind for the majority of the contest, with the Regals dominating through the air and pulled ahead twice to 14 point leads. But Pella Christian scored the last 17 points to claim victory. It was a fitting turn of events for seniors Jayden Huisman and Nathan De Bruin, and Huisman, who dropped a potential go ahead touchdown at the dome last year, caught a beautiful pass to set up De Bruin, who missed two late field goals at the end of the 2017 season, made the go-ahead field goal.
Noah Treimer hit two home run plays in the second half, Kyle Fynaardt and Cody Boender each had picks, and the Eagles collected six sacks on defense.
Pella Christian moves to 2-1 and has PCM looming for a rivalry showdown at Eagle Lane next week.
