In a clash of Marion County squads, it was Pella Christian that methodically moved the ball in a 35-0 shutout of Pleasantville, as heard live on 92.1 KRLS and the KNIA3 stream.
The Eagles took full advantage of six Trojan turnovers, scoring 28 points off of those miscues. Pella Christian drove the ball in the endzone four times before the break, before effectively ending it late in the 3rd frame.
While there wasn’t any traditional explosive plays for the Eagles on offense, Assistant Coach Verlan Nikkel tells KNIA/KRLS Sports it was nice to see a different, more patient approach against a grinding Pleasantville D.
“We still put up 35 points on the board and had 269 yards total, so all in all, not a bad night, kind of a workmanship night,” he says.
Head Coach of the Trojans Mack Jorth was quick to note the turnovers by his squad being detrimental to their chances.
“The name of the game tonight was self-inflicted wounds. When you play a good football team like Pella Christian they will take advantage of mistakes and they did exactly that.”
Jase Amelse had 60 yards rushing and two touchdowns for the Eagles, Dan Jungling had one TD on the ground, and Noah Treimer had two rushing scores as well. Pleasantville was led by Cale Anthony with 73 yards on the ground.
The Eagles improve to 4-2 and 2-0 in Class 1A District 7, and next host Colfax-Mingo, while the Trojans will host Woodward-Granger.
