Pella Christian was swept by a loaded field filled with ranked opposition in the Iowa City West volleyball tournament Saturday.
The Eagles fell to No. 10 in Class 5A Ankeny (21-12, 21-18), No. 3 in 2A Beckman Catholic (21-9, 21-11), Cedar Rapids Jefferson (21-16, 21-17), and No. 10 in Class 4A Iowa City Liberty (21-16, 21-18).
No. 6 in Class 4A Pella also had stiff competition at the Southeast Polk “Metro Classic” volleyball invitational in Pleasant Hill, and finished 2-2 on the day.
The Lady Dutch defeated No. 11 in 5A Southeast Polk (21-11, 16-21, 15-8) and Des Moines Roosevelt (21-15, 21-12). Pella fell to to Class 5A No. 3 Valley in two sets (15-25, 17-25) and Council Bluffs-Abraham Lincoln (21-13, 21-18).
Emily Holterhaus finished the day with 35 kills and Natalie Clayberg had 25.
Pella travels to Norwalk Tuesday, while the Eagles will hit the road to take on No. 12 in 5A Indianola that night.
