The City of Pella Parks Department will be renovating and adding street flower beds beginning next week.
Community Services Director Jeanette Vaughan tells KNIA/KRLS News the city maintains 129 street flower beds located in the public right-of-way areas on Washington Street, Franklin Street and Main Street.
“Over the years some properties in these areas have either seen new buildings constructed or had structures removed,” Vaughan says. “This resulted in the street flower beds for these properties being removed and, in some cases, never replanted leading to an inconsistent
placement of the City’s street flower beds.”
In December 2017, the Pella City Council reviewed the program and designated specific locations for street beds, with the intent of making them uniform and consistent in each segment, with the only exceptions being for trees or utilities which may present obstacles for planting. Once the project is completed, there will be a total of 145 street beds in the city limits.
