One week after a last-second win over Simpson to take first place in the American Rivers Conference, the Central College football team will have its league-leading status tested against preseason favorite Wartburg.

A win today by the Dutch would keep them in a comfortable first place position, but a loss would create at least a three way tie at the top of the standings. Coach Jeff McMartin says that the Knights are a very formidable foe with talent at every position.

“They’ve got basically the MVP of the league back from last year in the quarterback (Matt Sacia). He’s got a lot of really good weapons around him – a big offensive line, very talented wide receivers and a great tailback. And, defensively, they’re kind of the standard every year of what great defense looks like in our league. We’ve got a big challenge in front of us.”

Because of Wartburg’s homecoming, it’s a slightly later kick than what fans are used to. Gametime is scheduled for 1:30 at Walston-Hoover Stadium in Waverly. Trevor Castle and Don DeWaard will call the action live on 92.1 KRLS, beginning with pregame coverage at 1:05.
