The people who work day in and day out serving lunch in Knoxville’s schools, are being helped out and recognized by local celebrity servers during National School Lunch Week.

All week long, local officials and volunteers will be helping to serve lunch at West Elementary, Northstar Elementary and Knoxville Middle School; this continues what has become an annual tradition of having prominent members of the community see up close the work lunch servers do.

Knoxville Mayor Brian Hatch drew duty at Northstar Elementary on Monday; he tells KNIA/KRLS News the work done each day by school lunch staffs goes largely unnoticed, and this is an opportunity to give them some well-deserved recognition.

“I think the kids, they just take it for granted…they come through here and lunch is hot and ready for them every day to eat. They don’t realize all the work behind the scenes that goes into getting that ready for them to eat every day,” Hatch says.

Among those scheduled to pitch in for lunch service all this week are members of the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, and representatives from the Knoxville High School student council.
