Win or lose tonight, the Pella Christian football team is poised to make a return trip to the playoffs. The Eagles can take away all doubt and clinch a spot with a victory over I-35 in tonight’s district championship game.

Both teams are 4-0 in class 1-A District 7. The Eagles are 6-2 overall, and ranked fifth in the class in RPI due in large part to having the toughest strength of schedule in 1-A. The Roadrunners are a perfect 8-0 and are third in the RPI.

Pella Christian Coach Rich Kacmarynski is excited to have an opportunity to play for a district title, a sure spot in the postseason, and potentially two home playoff games.

“I think we’re playing our best football of the season right when we need to be and when we want to be. Our win last week over Woodward-Granger was a real breakthrough win. To score 45 points on a muddy field like that, on the road, was a real testament to our offense. Defensively, we also did some really nice things, but we gave up a couple cheap scores that we worked really hard to get fixed this week.”

Tonight’s game kicks off at 7:00 on Eagle Lane, and will be broadcast live on 92.1 KRLS. Trevor Castle and Larry Hessing have the call, beginning with pregame coverage at 6:30.
