After a one-week delay due to heavy rain, the Future Farmers of America at Knoxville High School are going ahead with their Feed the Farmers Day event on Saturday.

Knoxville students will be among those hosting a lunch for farmers at Smith Fertilizer and Grain from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday; for those who can’t come in from the fields, they also deliver — students will take a meal out to any farmers at work that day.

Mickayla McGill from the Knoxville High FFA tells KNIA/KRLS News farmers can check in right up to the last moment and reserve a meal; but she says getting the food to them can be tricky.

“If you would like us to deliver out in the field, it’s best if we know where and when because some of the kids don’t know where they’re going. It is quite the adventure to go out into a field,” McGill says.

Last week’s heavy rain led to the postponement of Knoxville’s event, but the Pleasantville FFA went ahead with its version as scheduled.

McGill says this project is an opportunity to help out farmers who are working so hard in the fields at harvest time, and to feed them as thanks for helping to feed us.
