With Beggar’s Night approaching, parents are being reminded to watch out for young ones that night; and that not only applies to watching for children walking the streets, but to adults and those behind the wheel.

Parents are cautioned against letting children wear masks or anything else which can obscure their vision; they should also supervise kids as they go door to door, keeping a respectful distance when at someone’s door, but close enough to watch.

Knoxville Police Chief Dan Losada tells KNIA/KRLS News parents should also make sure clothing, including their own, is visible at night; and all adults should keep an eye out for kids running into the street.

“If you’re dressed in dark clothing at night, make sure you’re wearing something reflective or you have a flashing light with you to make the kids more visible,” Losada says. “And let’s also not forget the responsibility of the drivers that are out that night; if you’re out driving that night, be aware that there’s lots of ghouls and goblins running around that might not be making the best decisions regarding traffic safety.”

Another concern is older children; Losada says if it gets late and you think the visitors to your door are a bit old for this sort of thing…then turn off the porch light and turn in for the evening.
