A matchup that has all but wrapped up the 3A District 7 crown fell to the side of a team other than Pella for the first time in six years.

No. 3 Pella fell to Oskaloosa in overtime 36-35, mired in a bit of controversy, as a two-point try was called good by the officials, with the Dutch leaving the field convinced the ball was dropped.

To get to a tie game, Pella had to overcome a two-score deficit three times — down 14-0, 21-7, and 28-17 in the fourth quarter.

After the Dutch scored on the opening drive of OT, the Indians answered. Head Coach Jay McKinstrey tells KNIA/KRLS Sports Pella made too many errors, overcame them, but could not close on a needed win.

Ryan Gustafson finished at 19 of 33 passing, 206 yards, with a TD and two picks, as well as 94 yards rushing, and Brendan Davidson recovered two fumbles that set up the 11 point comeback in the 4th.

It’s the first time Pella has lost to Oskaloosa after 13 straight wins dating back to 2007, and the first district loss since 2012 for the Dutch. The Little Dutch fall to 6-1, and 2-1 in District play, and will try to salvage a playoff spot by returning home to face Newton.
