Pella Christian High School biology students are hoping to make a lasting impact on campus after planting dozens of trees on Eagle Lane.

Seniors Ivy Terpstra and Jaydon Vande Noord are in Audra Faber’s classroom, and tell KRLS News their biology class received a grant from the Iowa DNR to strategically plant trees, with the labor performed by the students themselves and other biology and science classes.

“We spent a lot of time preparing and talking about trees and how to plant them and get them in the ground,” Vande Noord says.

Terpstra says there is a long-term benefits and cost savings to the school, as the trees were strategically planted to maximize their impact. The Biology 2 class at the high school had several classes focused on trees and their benefits prior to the planting.
