Despite a vote by the Warren County Board of Adjustment to deny the City of Indianola’s plans to build a wastewater treatment plant north of the city, the city will not end the process of building a new one.

City Manager Ryan Waller tells KNIA News the city has had plans to build a new plant for sometime, and will need to find a way to do so that works for everyone.

“The current facility is over 40 years old and is certainly outdated. There is new technology and new requirements when you treat the sewage that comes through the plants. There are various levels that the DNR puts out that need to be followed, and we need this new facility to be able to accomplish that.”

Waller also said the city has worked with the residents near the area they want to build the plant for over two years to make sure all of their concerns will be met, and that the city will continue to do so as they try to complete the project.
