The expansion of the Indianola Municipal Utilities to include fiber internet will have a major impact on the growth of the area according to General Manager of IMU Tom Gaffigan.

Gaffigan tells KNIA News the services such as electricity and water grew from a necessity that wasn’t being provided, and the fiber internet is just another step in that direction.

“Basically we are filling another need. It used to be said that the rural communities are not getting the benefits of digital services that the major metropolitan areas get, and there are utility services all over the state of Iowa including here that are filling that need and allowing residents to get what they need in the technological world.”

Gaffigan also said that this will allow for more business opportunities in the area such as allowing people to work from home or have more reliable internet at their businesses so they won’t have to leave the area to do work.
