The newest member of the Marion County Board of Supervisors will have to deal with one issue of immediate importance over the months and years to come — the disposition of the Veterans Administration campus in Knoxville.

Kisha Jahner defeated Stanley Bingham on Tuesday to gain a seat on the board; this came just one day after the board and the City of Knoxville agreed to a memorandum of understanding about the VA property.

Jahner tells KNIA/KRLS News she supports Knoxville’s efforts to rehabilitate a campus which has stood unused for a decade.

“I am supportive; it’ll be interesting to see how that turns out, where the GSA is at and what they’re looking at for costs. So yes, I’m supportive,” Jahner says.

The city will seek to acquire the land from the General Services Administration, demolish the buildings and redevelop the property for residential or commercial use.
