A plan to use solar power for several Knoxville city buildings will be up for discussion at tonight’s City Council meeting.

Red Lion Renewables will be discussing the idea, which involves building a canopy in the municipal parking lot adjacent to the fire station; it would be covered with solar panels, and would provide electricity for City Hall and the library as well as the fire station. A similar array would be put in place at the wastewater treatment plant.

The council will also discuss a proposal to open a Hy-Vee gas station in the Hy-Vee parking lot.

There will also be a public hearing on amending the city’s urban renewal area plan; and the City Council will be asked to approve the Knoxville Area Transportation Feasibility Study, which Marion County and the City of Pella have already approved.

The meeting comes to order at 6:15 p.m. and can be heard live on AM 1320/FM 94.3/FM 95.3 KNIA.
