Two years ago, when Amy Stuart took the job of cross country coach at Melcher-Dallas, there was no team. She had to build up the Saints program from scratch. Two years later, a boy and a girl qualified for the state meet, plus the boys had a full team that was able to score in the final meets of the season. Stuart tells KNIA/KRLS that now she and the runners need to continue to build the program. While the runners will try to recruit their classmates to go out for cross country during the offseason, Stuart says she will do some research to find out what the contending teams do to have success. Stuart adds there is no better way to entice kids to start running then to show them the success of J’Lyn Knutson and Emery Sage, the two runners that represented the Saints at the state meet last week.
