The PCM girls’ basketball team made an opening game statement Saturday afternoon when they defeated Chariton 57-36 at Newton.

The Chargers had 17 wins last year but was never in position to get their first this weekend, as the Mustangs never looked back from a 16-point halftime lead to cruise to the victory. Sophomore Lilli Baird impressed in the season debut with 20 points and Regan Freland added 18. Head Coach Jeff Lindsay tells KRLS Sports the team improved from their jamboree earlier in the week and they are starting to get used to their new offense.

The Mustangs start the season 1-0 and look to keep the momentum going tomorrow hosting Knoxville.
