Kids in need of an extra helping hand for the holidays will receive assistance through the 2nd annual Holiday Heroes program.

Pella Police Lt. Paul Haase tells KRLS News the PD is partnering with Pella Fire and Schuring and Uitermarkt to host the event, which allows kids to shop for themselves and their families with a firefighter or officer.

Haase says they had overwhelming success last year, with the families and first responders enjoying the experience; this has allowed it to expand to 30 children this December.

“The officers and the firefighters had a great time shopping with the kids,” Haase says. “The kids are nomiated through the schools, and they nominate the kids they think would benefit from being a part of the program.”

Those who want to contribute to the Holiday Heroes program can do so by making a donation at the Pella Police Department. The event will be held on December 11th. Several other local businesses will help with the program on the night of the activities.
