A routine meeting of Marion County’s Commission of Veterans Affairs was used as a tribute for a departing member of the Board of Supervisors.

Craig Agan was recognized at Thursday morning’s meeting; he served for several years in the Iowa National Guard, and received congratulations from Sen. Joni Ernst and Rep. Dave Loebsack.

But the real purpose was to thank him for his years serving Marion County and giving his support not only to its veterans, but to all of its citizens.

Agan received a special memento from Veterans Affairs director Mike Kuhn on behalf of the commission, a commemorative clock noting his time with the county and the appreciation of the many people he’s worked with.

He tells KNIA/KRLS News he’s glad to have had the opportunity to serve in each capacity.

“This is a lot, I think, for my services as supervisor and supporting this group, and I think Mike Kuhn does a fabulous job and all the commissioners…we truly appreciate what they do, and I appreciate their good thoughts today,” Agan says.

He plans to spend more time with his grandchildren and at the Knoxville Rec Center.
