For the first time this season, home fans can see both the Pella High girls and boys in action as the green and white host Indianola in Little Hawkeye Conference basketball action.

In the girls game, the Lady Dutch will host the defending league champions, who went to the class 5A semifinals a season ago. But this year’s Indian team looks completely different, and Pella coach Jerod Garland says that it might be good to catch them early in the season.

“You could see their inexperience early, but the last couple of games they’re starting to put things together. They don’t have a lot of height, so hopefully we can get some points in the paint. But they’re going to be scrappy and by the end of the year they’re going to be a very tough out and they’re getting better all the time. They lost everybody who started last year, with (Maggie) McGraw transferring to Southeast Polk and the other four starters graduating, so they’re young.”

Pella’s girls are 1-3 after a comeback fell short at Ballard on Tuesday, while Indianola is 2-1.

On the boys side, Pella is 2-1 and the Indians are 1-1. Indianola features UNI commit Evan Gauger as part of an all-senior backcourt.

Tonight’s doubleheader starts at 6:15 at Pella High School. Join Trevor Castle and Roger DeWaard for the play-by-play, beginning with pregame coverage at 6:00 on the KRLS2 stream at www.kniakrls.com.
