The new Indianola ice rink will open today at Pickard Park, with a ribbon cutting ceremony hosted by Indianola Parks and Rec and the Iowa Wild.

Indianola Parks and Recreation Director Doug Bylund tells KNIA News the ice rink is going to provide a great form of entertainment for residents during a time when getting outside is difficult.

“In the past you’ve had to go to Des Moines or somewhere other than Indianola to go ice skating, so now you’ll be able to do that here, so it will hopefully bring other people into town. For me, it doesn’t matter to me what kind of recreation we offer but we have to provide something to do and this will be great. It can be for families, grandparents to spend time with their grandkids, boyfriend and girlfriend going on a date, it’s just going to be a great benefit for everybody.”

The rink will be open daily, weather permitting, for hockey from morning until noon, then open skating until dusk. The ice rink was made possible by a donation from the Iowa Wild and Wells Fargo, and constructed by Indianola Parks and Recreation. The ribbon cutting will take place at 1:30pm.
