The Indianola boys basketball team used a strong second and third quarter to take down the Dallas Center-Grimes Mustangs 71-56, while the girls couldn’t survive a tough Fillies run in the fourth as the Indians fell 62-51 to split the doubleheader.

The Indians boys fell behind early behind some hot shooting from the Mustangs, but clawed their way back to a tie game with three minutes to go before halftime. An 11-2 run before the break put the Indians up 9, and they didn’t look back outscoring getting the lead as high as 22. Evan Gauger scored 27 points to lead the squad.

The Indians girls once again found themselves in an early hole they had to crawl out of, trailing much of the first quarter before some offensive rebounding from Alley May got the Indians back into it as she scored all 8 of her points in that quarter. The Indians trailed at half by only 3 at 34-31, and eventually tied the game at 47 late in the third, but it was all DCG after that, as they ended the game on a 15-4 run. Jordan Cunningham led the Fillies with 28 points, and she made all but one of the second half field goals for DCG in the game. Lauren Blake led the Indians with 13.

The boys improve to 5-1 and are on a four game win streak, while the girls fall to 3-3, and both teams will travel out of conference play to Carlisle tomorrow.
