Twenty-eight three point shots were made by the Indianola and Pella boys basketball teams last night, as the Indians survived a run by Pella in overtime to win 89-86 last night, while the Indianola girls fell to the Lady Dutch 56-47 in a doubleheader heard live on KNIAKRLS.com.

Indianola’s Evan Gauger and Logan Shetterly went blow-for-blow in the nightcap ending up with 31 and 32 points respectively as the night rained down shots from beyond the arc. The game was close throughout, until an Indianola run late put them up 11 points with 4 minutes to play, but Pella would not give up and hit several late shots to force an overtime period. Indianola made free throws down the stretch to seal the win, and had a 29-3 overall free throw advantage. Head Coach Brett Watson tells KNIA Sports he thought his team played to their strengths throughout the game

“I kept telling our kids 3’s aren’t gonna beat us, but it came pretty darn close because they were raining them down from the volleyball line, and everybody on their team was. We talked about it at halftime, that we just needed to believe in our philosophy and play our game which we did and we survived a big gut check for us. Our kids were tough enough to handle it and we pulled out the win tonight.”

The girls got off to a much slower start in the opener, falling behind by 10 before a run in the late first quarter tied the game at 19. Pella then went on a 11-2 run to take a 30-22 lead at halftime. Indianola once again fought back, starting off the third with a 7-0 to get within one, but another Pella 13-3 run put the game away. Kendall Clatt led the Indians with 16 points. The boys improve to 2-1 and will next play on Tuesday at Bondurant, while the girls fall to 2-2 on the season and wait a week to travel to Pella Christian.
