Both Knoxville Basketball Squads scored wins last night over Clarke in South Central Conference play as heard on KNIA and kniakrls.com. The girls fell down by eight points early on, but clamped down on defense and only allowed 12 points from Clarke in the second and third quarters combined to run away 59-38. Coach Jim Uitermarkt told KNIA/KRLS Sports after the first four minutes of the game, his team settled down and played better. Katie Keitges led the Panthers with 25 points, while Maggie Wilkins scored 17. Knoxville moves to 4-0 on the season and 2-0 in the South Central Conference. The boys had a struggle with Clarke but ended up racing away from the Indians 74-64. Knoxville was down by as many as eight points in the first half, but a flurry in the second quarter that ended with a Kieren Nichols 40 foot bank shot at the end of the first half seemed to ignite the Panthers in the second half, who had a lead as high as 20 at one point. Nichols led the Panthers with 24 points, Tyler Vaske scored all of this 14 points in the second half and Ben Olson and Elliott Schmidt scored 12 each. Knoxville is now 2-0 on the season and also holds the same record in the conference. Both Panther teams travel to Chariton on Friday.
