The Knoxville Senior Center is hoping to bring back an old tradition, as they seek to raise revenue for their operations.

Shelly Braley is the director of the center; she tells KNIA/KRLS News if their board of directors approves, they would be able to bring back an event which helped to sustain it a few years ago.

“Right now, we’re hoping to get our license for a bingo parlor, (and) bring in the public…it’s dying around our area, so we’re trying to get that brought back into the community,” Braley says.

These bingo games would be open to the public on a bi-weekly basis, and the money generated would help keep the center in the basement of City Hall open and available for use by the town’s older citizens.

Braley says the center’s presence is especially important at this time of the year; many of its regular users have no family in the area, or have difficulty getting to see them…so the Senior Center provides their only opportunity to get together with others for companionship.
